He added said that the west, including the US and UK, was being held back by \u201ccynicism\u201d. \u201cWe need more optimism,\u201d Huang said on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Financial Times\u2019 Future of AI Summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/MixCollage-23-Mar-2025-11-52-AM-4378.jpg?resize=640%2C336\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/MixCollage-23-Mar-2025-11-52-AM-4378.jpg?resize=1024%2C538&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/MixCollage-23-Mar-2025-11-52-AM-4378.jpg?resize=300%2C158&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/MixCollage-23-Mar-2025-11-52-AM-4378.jpg?resize=768%2C403&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/MixCollage-23-Mar-2025-11-52-AM-4378.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Huang singled out new rules on AI by US states that could result in \u201c50 new regulations\u201d. He contrasted that approach with Chinese energy subsidies that made it more affordable for local tech companies to run Chinese alternatives to Nvidia\u2019s AI chips. \u201cPower is free,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After his comments were reported, Huang came up with a clarification. &#8220;As I have long said, China is nanoseconds behind America in AI. It&#8217;s vital that America wins by racing ahead and winning developers worldwide,&#8221; Huang <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nvidianewsroom\/status\/1986221177099194484\">said <\/a>in a statement via NVIDIA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn&#8217;t the first time that Jensen Huang has spoken about China&#8217;s advances in AI. In May this year, he&#8217;d <a href=\"https:\/\/officechai.com\/ai\/china-is-not-behind-the-us-in-ai-nvidia-ceo-jensen-huang\/\">said <\/a>that China was &#8220;not behind&#8221; the US in AI. &#8220;They\u2019re very, very close. And so we\u2019re going to compete for a long time,\u201d Huang had then said. \u201cAnd just remember that (China) is a country with great technical capabilities. Fifty percent of the world\u2019s AI researchers are Chinese. And so this is an industry that we will have to compete for,\u201d he had added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Huang isn&#8217;t the only US executive that has warned about Chinese dominance in AI. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt has <a href=\"https:\/\/officechai.com\/ai\/china-will-win-ai-race-with-enormously-negative-effects-unless-us-gets-its-act-together-eric-schmidt\/\">said <\/a>that China will win the AI race &#8220;with enormously negative effects&#8221; if the US doesn&#8217;t get its act together. Marc Andreessen has also <a href=\"https:\/\/officechai.com\/ai\/marc-andreessen-explains-why-us-must-beat-china-in-open-source-ai\/\">said <\/a>that it&#8217;s vital that the US beat China at AI, because he wanted the AI systems of the future to have Western values, not CCP values. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And there are good reasons to believe that China is catching up fast with the US at AI. Just this month, Chinese models <a href=\"https:\/\/officechai.com\/ai\/chinas-ai-models-replace-uss-ai-models-as-open-model-of-choice-for-first-time\/\">surpassed <\/a>US-made models as the open model of choice for the first time. China has a <a href=\"https:\/\/officechai.com\/ai\/top-10-chinese-ai-language-models-in-2025\/\">string of companies<\/a> making popular open models like Alibaba&#8217;s Qwen, DeepSeek, Baidu, Moonshot AI and others, which have amassed millions of users. And with some of the biggest names in US&#8217;s tech space saying that China has a good chance of winning the AI race, American companies &#8212; and the US government &#8212; would do well to
