Say Hello to Alphabet!<\/span><\/p>\n

Google is all over the news this week. First, the Chennai boy<\/a><\/span> Sundar Pichai takes charge as Google\u2019s new CEO<\/a><\/span>. Second, Google gets a new parent company \u2013 Alphabet Inc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Google, one of the most valuable companies in the world with $434 billion<\/span> market capitalization<\/a>, announced a major restructuring by creating a new holding company named Alphabet Inc. This new company will manage each of its current businesses under one giant umbrella.<\/span><\/p>\n

But what does this new Alphabet really mean to us, the users and consumers? Here\u2019s everything (well, almost) we need to know.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Alphabet won\u2019t change your internet search experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes. You can still use Google and You Tube search engine as the way you have been using. Alphabet won\u2019t interfere. Google will be in control of these services, under parental supervision of Alphabet, of course.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Your Google shares will be automatically converted to Alphabet shares<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you own stocks in Google, don\u2019t be afraid. This reorganization won\u2019t affect your shares any way. All your current shares at Google will be automatically converted into Alphabet\u2019s shares. Your rights will be the same and the shares will continue to trade on Nasdaq as GOOGL and GOOG.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Alphabet won\u2019t be a consumer brand anytime soon<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are now very much familiar with Google-branded hardware devices, like Google Nexus smartphones and internet-TV enabled Google Chromecast. But don\u2019t expect similar line of consumer products from Alphabet for now. Google co-founder Larry Page said in unveiling Alphabet<\/a>,<\/span> “We are not intending for this to be a big consumer brand with related products.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Alphabet will take care of every units of Google<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every units run by Google at present, will be looked after by a bigger giant named Alphabet. The new holding company will manage Google Inc., Google Ventures, Google Capital, Google X, Fiber and the \u201cfar afield\u201d units. Page explained the \u201cfar afield\u201d units as the ones which are not directly related to Google\u2019s internet products, such as \u201cLife Sciences (that works on the glucose-sensing contact lens), and Calico\u00a0(focused on longevity)\u201d. He mentioned nothing about Google\u2019s driverless cars and robotics ventures though.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Alphabet added 6% to Google\u2019s brand worth<\/strong><\/p>\n

Google\u2019s this week\u2019s announcement of restructuring has added 6%<\/a> to its overall brand worth and added more than $20 billion in its overall market cap. Whoop!<\/span><\/p>\n

6. Google doesn\u2019t own Alphabet.com<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s right. Google is now Alphabet alright, but neither Google nor Alphabet own Alphabet.com<\/a>. Instead, BMW does<\/a>. All information about Alphabet is currently available at abc.xyz<\/a>.<\/span> Because the domain Alphabet.com is already registered by BMW since 1997. Well, this is going to get really confusing.<\/span><\/p>\n

But, it\u2019s Google. We are sure they will work this out.<\/span><\/p>\n
